Dr. Patrick Loftus- Discussion of sinus lift complications
The case presented below discusses a bilateral sinus lift done in-office. At time of surgery things seemed to have been ideal. Over time, some complications developed. What do we do when this happens?
General discussion leaned toward pharmacological management and a "wait-and-see" approach. Later discussion with ENT confirmed that this was probably best, though the exact regimen differs between ENT and the majority of dentists. The Member Presentation at this club presented on some information from the dental research on management of this sort. The ENT that spoke with the group today said he would probably do Augmentin for 21 days, 875mg BID, as well as 5 days of Prednisone, 50mg, 1 tab/day. That is a lot more than what most of us are doing in our offices, but is perhaps a valuable insight from our medical colleagues.
